If a registered applicant desires to change their original specified training date, a $250 fee will be applied. This fee must be paid in order to reserve the applicant’s spot in the newly chosen workshop. If it is not possible for a trainee to attend an in-person workshop, we do offer the option of a remote training three times per year.
You know yourself better than anyone. Consider the following: do you have small children, do you have a job outside the home, are you a fast/slow reader, are you already a birth professional? There are many books to be read, and you will spend several hours typing your module answers. Most people need several months to complete the required work before the workshop, but if you have read several of the books previously, are a birth professional, or don’t have many distractions in your life, you may be able to get through the requirements faster. We know it is a lot of work, but our instructors have been able to hit the ground running because they truly know their stuff.
Laptop/ipad for note taking and for the online exam, 2 bed pillows, comfortable clothing, a jacket or sweater, your own snacks and beverages
Birth Boot Camp strives to help our teachers fill their classes. We have an accessible and searchable online directory where all of our instructors are listed. Your training covers not just how to teach classes, but also includes marketing information on some basic self-promotion. Much of your work will be in your own community. We encourage you to contact other birth professionals and be part of local community resources such as La Leche League or BirthNetwork.
Keep in mind that there is a significant amount of work involved in this training. After your application has been approved, allow yourself plenty of time to complete all certification requirements. The study modules must be submitted three business days before the workshop. Certification should be completed within one year of applying.
Recertification is due each year at the end of March.
Instructor Certification fees can be found along with the Training Dates.
The current recertification fee is $150.
Yes! Our fees are already broken up into two separate payments.
1) Pay your Certification Fee to Birth Boot Camp
2) Pay your Training Fee to your Instructor Trainer. You may communicate with your specific trainer about payment plans that she may offer.
Yes, instructors may be certified through (approved) organizations, as long as there is not a conflict of interest in your classes. We do expect our instructors to teach and use Birth Boot Camp materials when a class has been advertised as such, and only in such instances. For example, you may not use Birth Boot Camp materials (written, video, or otherwise) for a non-Birth Boot Camp class. We believe that our materials and support are the best in the industry and you will not feel the need to have or continue with another CBE certification.
One of the advantages of Birth Boot Camp’s online comprehensive classes for the instructor is that students are able to take up to 2 missed classes via the Internet. While we encourage students to come to every class, we realize that things come up, people must travel, and, sometimes, people don’t find out about a class until it has already begun. Should a student need to make up a live class, we will set them up with the appropriate online class. Their access will last one week from the time of issuing.
Please note that make up classes are only available for the comprehensive class.
We encourage long-term breastfeeding and want nursing mothers to be included. Training, however, is intensive and requires long hours and a quiet room, so that all who have invested their time and money can hear and participate. Training also requires that all be able to participate in relaxation and various other floor exercises. If you are nursing a baby or child you must have someone with you who can bring your baby to you and take them out of the training room when they are done feeding. This enables both the nursing mother and others in attendance to maximize their workshop experience.
Will the online classes compete with my live classes? I am worried that people will just opt for online classes.
One of the goals of Birth Boot Camp is to provide classes that are accessible to ALL, even those away from an instructor, overseas, or with very hectic schedules. That is why we developed the online course. We still see much value in live classes such as: one-on-one instructor interaction, friendship and camaraderie with other class members, and personal accountability each week in class. We encourage those who CAN to take live classes. We believe that most couples DESIRE a live, in-person class. Our online classes exist for those who simply cannot make a live class work.
Yes! Ongoing, daily support can be found on the Instructor Facebook Group. Our wonderful instructors have formed an amazing support system there. Headquarters and members of the Advisory Board are available by email, at any time. We are thankful for our instructors and do all that we can to help and support them!
In addition, Birth Boot Camp is hosting a company-wide retreat every three years with the purpose of providing new information and helping Birth Boot Camp instructors and doulas stay motivated and excited about their birth business. Fees are kept to a minimum. You will not regret making an effort to be at every single Birth Boot Camp retreat.
Training ends with you taking your exam. Within a few weeks, you will be notified of your status and will be off and running as you help women learn how to have an amazing birth in your area!
