If you’re reading this hoping to find some ways to make money as a doula that don’t require you to be on call, you’re in the right place!

My name is Chloe Adams-Gibbs, and I am a birth + postpartum doula and birth educator based in Midland, Texas. Hence the name of my business, Midland Doula. Before becoming a doula, I had an award-winning blog, a top 100 for Business iTunes podcast, and a non-profit community for professional women, and worked in marketing and communications for brands like Ashley Furniture, iHeart Media/ Clear Channel, and Facebook. My influencer and marketing background has served me well as I pivoted to doula work, and I want to share some of my knowledge with you! Keep reading if you want to diversify your income!

1. Create behind-the-scenes content and offer a subscription on Instagram

I was so intrigued when Instagram announced they were launching a subscription service on the platform. Instagram subscriptions allow you to monetize by offering exclusive content and benefits to your most engaged followers at a monthly fee. Your followers can subscribe through an in-app purchase on their mobile device. You can manage your subscriptions in the Instagram App. If you’re not tech-savvy when it comes to websites, I feel like this is an amazing option to make extra money and utilize your platform. You can get more information on how this works via this link.

2. Create an Etsy store or eCommerce account on your website where you sell merchandise, helpful materials, eBooks, etc.

Fun fact, I used to get made fun of in my sorority for buying literally every single shirt we made. As a big merchandise girl, this has been my favorite way to diversify my doula income! I create designs on Canva, then I create merchandise on Printful’s awesome print-on-demand service, and then upload them to my Etsy store. It’s a fun way for me to keep up with my design chops and get discounted doula shirts. I am working on an e-book right now, and plan to use the same formula to sell on Etsy and my business website.

3. Create an eCourse

Speaking of creating things, nothing is more evergreen than a course! What is evergreen content? Evergreen content is search-optimized content that is continually relevant and stays “fresh” for readers over a long period of time. With an eCourse, there is ALOT of upfront work creating the content and workflow, but once it’s done, it’s done! You have a great leave-it-and-forget-it way to make money.

4. Become an Amazon affiliate and make money off the products you already promote

If you’re like me, I am always sending my clients links to my favorite products. If you’re already promoting those products, then why not make some money doing it? I created a storefront where I share my favorite things for baby must-haves, books to read during pregnancy, postpartum, and so much more! I share these on social media, my website, and my blog for exposure.

5. Reach out to brands you love to see if they have an ambassador program

I am a HUGE Kindred Bravely fan! I was recommending them so much, that I did some research and found out they had an ambassador program. Not only do I earn a commission for every sale that is made within 30 days of using my link, but I also get to be the first to get their new product lines for FREE. I highly recommend sitting down and making a list of your favorite brands and doing some research on their ambassador program. Most of the time you can find the info on the footer of their website, or you can email them.

6. Create a Social Cat account and work with brands you are passionate about!

Social Cat is an innovative platform that pairs influencers and brands. After filling out a survey about your brand, they match you with brands and if you both agree, you’re working together! I have done more gifted collaborations than paid one, but I have become a lifelong customer of some of them. It’s definitely a fun way to get new products for free. With a little work and consistency, it’s definitely possible to diversify your income in ways that don’t eat up a lot of time or where you have to be on call. In fact, in this blog post alone I have set up five different ways to passively make income for myself every time someone reads it. Be on the lookout for more blog posts I have coming up with marketing tips.
