Overwhelmed by Information

You're feeling bombarded by conflicting advice from social media, books, websites, and well-meaning friends and family.

“This class was fun and so informative! There was SO much that I didn’t know about all of the decisions I could make about my birth. Both my husband and I were so confident during the birth. I knew what my body was doing and he knew how to comfort and help me. We had a wonderful birth experience because of this class.

Why is Preparing for Your Birth So Important?

There may be even greater risks to skipping a childbirth class than you realize. Don’t leave your birth to chance!

Choose Your Class

Unnecessary Medical Interventions

Without learning about childbirth, you might end up with medical procedures you don’t really need. This can make your recovery take longer and make you feel like you didn’t have control over your birth.

Strained Relationship & Lack of Support

Not preparing for birth can make it hard for you and your partner to support each other. Both of you might feel stressed and alone. Your wider support system might also not be ready to help you, leaving you feeling isolated.

Birth Trauma & Postpartum Issues

If you don’t prepare for birth, you may experience a traumatic birth that stays with you for a long time. This can make you feel sad, worried, and find it hard to bond with your baby. In fact, 1 in 3 women experience birth trauma. Preparing for  birth with an in-depth class can significantly reduce the chances of experiencing trauma during birth.

Long Term Health & Emotional Consequences

The stress and worry from not being ready for birth can have long-term effects on your health. You might take longer to heal, feel stressed for a long time, or struggle with postpartum emotions. A poor birth experience can also affect how you feel about future pregnancies.

Imagine a birth experience where you feel completely supported, informed, and confident.

Meet Your Instructors

Hi! I’m Hollie Hauptly, and I’m thrilled to be your guide as you are preparing for your upcoming birth. My journey as a doula and childbirth educator began in 2010 after the birth of my first child. That experience ignited a passion in me that nothing else had, leading me to change my career path completely and sign up for doula training just months later.

Over the past 14 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of couples navigate the exciting and sometimes daunting path to parenthood. My own life-changing birth experiences, having delivered four amazing kids both in and out-of-hospital with midwives, have profoundly shaped my desire to support others.

In 2013, I joined Birth Boot Camp, and I am now proud to be the owner and CEO. With a background in education and curriculum development, I bring a unique perspective to birth preparation, ensuring that our classes are the absolute best.

My favorite part about teaching birth classes is witnessing the transformation of couples as they become confident in their ability to make decisions about their birth, take charge of their experience, and begin a new chapter in their life welcoming a new baby.

When I’m not working on projects for Birth Boot Camp or working with my own birth clients, I love to read! My nightstand constantly has a stack of books I’m working my way through, and I’m always listening to an audiobook when I can. I also enjoy sewing and quilting, playing D&D and board games with my family and friends, and hanging out with my husband.

Hello, I’m Cheryl Amelang, your co-host and dedicated birth professional with over a decade of hands-on experience. My journey in the world of birth began with my own experiences, which profoundly shaped my desire to help others. My work as a childbirth educator and birth assistant began in 2012. Over the years, I have been privileged to provide countless couples and families with the support and guidance necessary for them to achieve a safe and fulfilling birth experience.

One of my favorite aspects of teaching birth classes is witnessing couples grow closer together each week as they prepare for birth. I love seeing their confidence grow, knowing they are well-prepared and that they have achieved this together.

When I’m not filling out spreadsheets or working on Birth Boot Camp projects, I enjoy homeschooling my children, teaching childbirth classes, sipping on a Sonic Dr. Pepper, and avoiding making dinner at all costs.

My extensive experience, dedication to empowering couples, and commitment to excellence make me proud to be an integral part of the Birth Boot Camp team and your instructor as you prepare to welcome a new baby to your family.

With our combined expertise, Hollie and I have developed a comprehensive curriculum that addresses your concerns, dispels myths, and prepares you for the beautiful journey ahead. We’ve seen firsthand the difference that preparation and education can make, and we’re committed to sharing our knowledge and support with you.

headshot of Cheryl Amelang, the certification coordinator for Birth Boot Camp

“I really don’t think I could have gotten through those 18 hours of labor without everything I learned and practiced from Birth Boot Camp. There were definitely times when I thought I couldn’t keep going, but I would draw my focus back on all the techniques we learned and practiced. I know that it made a world of difference!”  -KJ

What makes Birth Boot Camp’s online classes unique compared to other childbirth education programs?

Birth classes on the market tend to be “methods” which give women one or two methods of pain management to use during their labor and births. This limits the person’s ability to manage pain and can leave her feeling like a failure or she didn’t “do it right.” Birth Boot Camp is not a method. Our goal is to fill each labor tool box with a variety of comfort measures, relaxation techniques, and tips and tricks so they can decide what works best for them at any given point in labor! We know that each laboring person has unique desires, likes, dislikes, goals, and personalities that play into how they labor and what works best. We also believe partners are a valuable part of the birth team and process. We train partners in how to be the amazing support they desire to be! We believe you and your partner can bring your baby earthside with confidence, education, pain management strategies that work, and have an amazing birth experience together!

Which class should I choose?

Have you taken our quiz? We recommend starting there, but here are a few other things to consider.

You may want to consider the Comprehensive Class is you are a first time parent, planning a natural birth, or are wanting a VBAC. This class also includes information about newborn care, breastfeeding, and the postpartum recovery. You’ll receive complimentary access to the Birth Boot Camp Breastfeeding Class taught by Mellanie Sheppard, IBCLC. It’s great for all birth locations including hospital births and out-of-hospital births. The Comprehensive Class has the most information for the best value.

You may want to consider the Hospital Class if you are looking for information specifically focused on delivering in the hospital. You’ll learn how to navigate hospital policies and interventions, as well as pain management options.

You may want to consider the Home and Birth Center Class is you will be delivering at home or a free-standing birth center. You’ll learn what’s most important in helping you achieve your natural birth, while lowering your chances of needing interventions.

When should I start my class?

A majority of our students begin their class between 20 and 25 weeks.

Ideally, you’d begin your class with enough time to watch one class each week, practice what you learn, do the homework, have discussions together, talk to your care provider, write your birth plan, etc.

If you’re starting a little later, no problem. You’ll just be learning it all in a shorter amount of time.

How long will I have access to my class?

You will have 12 months of unlimited access to the class(es) you are registered for.

What is included in my online class?

Your online class includes hours of video content filled with tons of information and tips, demonstration and practice videos, and relaxation recordings.

Each course has an online e-book with the option to upgrade to a physical workbook if you’d like.

How can I get the most out of my class?

Treating your online classes as you would a live class is the best bit of advice. Pick a class night, put it in your calendar, then do the homework (relaxation, Chow Charts, exercises, discussions with each other and/or care provider, etc.) during the week. Don’t try to cram the classes all at once, even if you are getting a late start. Space them out by at least a few days and work on the weekly assignments even if it’s not for an entire week. Be accountable to each other. Other useful tips can be found once you log on after registration.

What if I have questions? Who do I contact?

Your online instructors, Hollie Hauptly and Cheryl Amelang, would love to help if you have any questions at all while you complete your online class.

Are these classes only for people that want a natural birth?

Birth Boot Camp classes are for any birth plan! Our goal is for families to know all of their options, what to expect with each option, and plan for the birth they desire. If you are planning to use medication for pain management, you will understand what that entails and how to make the most of your options. You will also learn other pain management tools to utilize until medication can be administered. There are no right or wrong pain management options, but having information and options makes all the difference!

How does this birth class prepare my partner to provide support during labor? Should he take the class too?

Partners are an important part of the birth team! Often partners don’t know where they fit in or what they can do to really help. We give dads concrete ways to help during the labor and birth process. We give them hands-on tools, how to provide emotional support, ways to talk to the birth team, questions to ask, and conversations to have. When partners are prepared, this gives birthing people confidence that they will be supported in every way so they can focus on the hard work of birthing their baby. We love preparing partners and dads!

What are the advantages of taking an online birth class versus an in-person class?

This is a common question and both are amazing options so it really just depends on what you are wanting and needing in a birth class!

Advantages of a Birth Boot Camp online class:
*The Birth Boot Camp online classes are taught by experienced birth professionals, Hollie Hauptly and Cheryl Amelang with over 20 years of combined experience and 10 children between them!
* The online classes are pre-recorded and can be watched at any own pace. We recommend scheduling a “class night” each week and committing to watching the classes together.
* The flexibility is ideal for couples with busy schedules.
* Once purchased, couples have access to the class for one year which makes going back and reviewing sections easy and convenient before the big day!
* Access to the Headquarters Team to ask questions as they come up during class.
* Payment plans are available.

Advantages of a Birth Boot Camp in-person class:
* In-person classes are taught by trained and certified Birth Boot Camp Instructors.
* Classes are often taught in group settings.
* Hands-on practice of comfort measures, relaxations, laboring positions, and pushing options.
* Have your questions answered on the spot and learn from other’s questions.
* Community of families going through the same stage of life.
* Access to resources in your community through your Instructor.

Can I pay with my HSA/FSA card?

We gladly accept HSA/FSA payments! If you have an HSA/FSA card you should be able to use it when you purchase your class.
