Birth Doula in Colorado Springs, CO
As our doula and instructor trainings have multiplied, so have our new doulas. There are few things more exciting to us than having these Birth Boot Camp instructors all over the country! One of our newest recruits is Madeline, a Birth Boot Camp DOULA in Colorado Springs, CO. Welcome to Birth Boot Camp Madeline, we are so excited to have you!
Introduce yourself!
I’m Madeline, wife to Bryan and mommy to Elinor! I am a “replanted Coloradan,” having moved back to Colorado Springs from Texas last year. I love hiking, chai tea lattes, and all things related to pregnancy, birth, and children! I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, so I love mommies and babies, but I also love school-aged kids as well.
What first got you interested in doula work?
After Elinor was born, I became fascinated by birth work! I had such an amazing birth with Hailie Wolfe as my doula, my supportive husband, and my wonderful mom.
My birth certainly wasn’t perfect, but it was beautiful. I felt empowered and strong!
I realized that I want every woman to have the opportunity to have an experience like mine: empowering and beautiful. So I decided to become a Birth Boot Camp DOULA and Instructor!
Do you have any particular passions concerning birth, if so, why?
I have a firm belief that all women deserve to have a doula, if they want one, regardless of their age, socioeconomic status, religion, marital status, or any other factor. Because all women deserve a beautiful birth, and many women don’t believe they can have one!
I am particularly passionate about teenage moms, and helping them receive evidence-based care and having empowering birth experiences.
With so many doula trainings out there, why did you choose Birth Boot Camp DOULA training?
Hailie Wolfe was my Birth Boot Camp instructor and doula. I saw how well-educated she was and how wonderful she was at my own birth. I knew that if I was going to be a doula, I wanted the kind of training that would allow me to be as effective, compassionate, and knowledgeable as she is!
Tell us about your doula training experience and your favorite parts.
I attended training with Alexa Gumm in Tampa, FL. It was a long way from my Colorado home, but so worth the trip. I loved the stories Alexa had to tell from her wealth of knowledge and experience. She was so helpful in answering all of our “What if…” questions.
Practicing comfort measures and labor positions with the other trainees was super practical and hands-on experience to prepare us as doulas!
To close, how do you believe doulas can make a positive difference in the birth experience for women?
I believe that doulas play an important part in normalizing the birth experience. American culture tells women that birth is excruciating and horrible, that it is something to be avoided at all costs.
Birth is beautiful. All birth.
I tell all new moms that birth is intense: the most intense thing you will ever do. But is so empowering and rewarding. A doula helps women remember, even in the midst of the “fog of labor,” that they are powerful and capable.
