Please take a moment to introduce yourself!

Hi, my name is Kelli Cross, and I am a birth professional and doula serving the DFW area, focusing on Greenville, TX and Rockwall, TX. I am a wife, mother of 5, cesarean and vba2c mom, and co-owner of Orchard Births.

What first got you interested in doula work?
Becoming a doula was inspired by my own birth journey and the desire to serve families through birth and beyond. I started out not having much of any support in my birth and parenting journey and wanted to provide for my community to the best of my ability.

Do you have any particular passions concerning birth, if so, why?
I love serving families through all kinds of choices and settings. I am especially passionate about caring for women who are planning or have experienced a cesarean and/or vbac, encouraging women experiencing perinatal anxiety, depression, or birth trauma, and supporting families desiring to breastfeed. I have had two homebirth transfers that ended in cesarean, a birth center VBA2C, home VBA2C, and then repeat cesarean. I have enjoyed working with and on behalf of cesarean families for more than five years, as both a doula and volunteer in the community with The Cesarean Group (and formerly ICAN).

With so many doula trainings out there, why did you choose Birth Boot Camp DOULA training?
I was already a fan of Donna and her blog, as well as the strong curriculum that Birth Boot Camp classes presented, so it felt like a natural progression when they announced the doula program. I had already convinced one of my dear friends into training with BBC before I was able, so I was excited to join myself.
Tell us about your training experience and your favorite parts.
I loved that I was able to attend a live training and get hands on experience. I feel like that helped me so much as a tactile and visual learner. It solidified all of the studying up to that point. I also loved getting to know my fellow trainees and hearing how they wanted to be inspirations in their own communities.
How is doula work going for you? What is your favorite part about it?
Doula work has been kind to me and a ton of fun. I have partnered up with some amazing women to offer an array of services to our families. I have a favorite from every client, but overall, I love that we have been able to bring better doula access to our suburban and rural communities.
How did your training prepare you for actual birth attendance?
I felt truly equipped to begin serving clients immediately. Even though I had attended births before training, the difference in skill set and confidence after training was huge for me. I also love that BBC continues to provide opportunities to learn and grow as doulas, so that we can continue improving.
How do you feel you are having a positive impact with your doula clients?
My goal with each client is to make sure they feel cared for no matter the outcome of their journey, to build their confidence in their ability to birth and parent, and to leave them equipped with the tools and knowledge to be successful in their choices. I feel like I’m making at least a small contribution to helping their families grow.

To close, how do you believe doulas can make a positive difference in the birth experience for women?
Whether it’s meeting the goal of a family’s natural childbirth or holding their hand during a cesarean, kind, loving, unbiased support can make a huge difference in how a family sees their birth. While we won’t always be able to guarantee or prevent a certain outcome, we can navigate you through it, and help make the experience truly family centered.
How can we find you?
Families can contact me via any of the methods below. I can’t wait to help YOU have an amazing birth!
