Carmen became interested in natural childbirth during her first pregnancy in 2010. Her planned homebirth was derailed by the onset of pre-eclampsia at 37 weeks, resulting in a very difficult hospital induction that narrowly avoided a cesarean delivery. 14 months later, Carmen was able to experience a triumphant and empowered homebirth and delivered a 10lb baby boy. After having a challenging postpartum experience with her first son, Carmen chose placenta encapsulation as a means to avoid postpartum mood issues after her second birth. She was so astounded at the difference placenta encapsulation made in her postpartum recovery, Carmen felt called to help other moms in her community experience a balanced postpartum period without the blues, anxiety, or depression. She started The Nurturing Root, serving postpartum moms in 2011. As her business has grown, Carmen wanted to expand by adding childbirth education to her menu of services. As a birth advocate who is also passionate about breastfeeding, babywearing, and attachment parenting, Carmen knew Birth Boot Camp was the perfect fit. Carmen is so excited to be able to educate and empower couples so that they can have the birth they have been dreaming of.

After experiencing what she considers “the highest high of her life” during the birth of her second child, Anna became determined to help other women experience the same.  She believes that the key to an amazing experience lies in preparation (and she has her own birth stories to prove it!) but also in recognizing and appreciating women’s innate wisdom, power and ability to birth.  Anna is super excited to bring Birth Boot Camp to Maryland and she cannot wait to meet you!
