What if I can’t attend the workshop I am registered for?

If a registered applicant desires to change their specified training date, a $100 fee will be applied. This $100 fee must be paid in order to reserve the applicant’s spot in the newly chosen workshop. If the applicant is not able to attend a workshop within 12 months, all fees are forfeited. Trainees are allowed to reschedule their training once.

How long should I allow myself to complete my pre-workshop study guide?

You know yourself better than anyone. Consider the following: do you have small children, do you have a job outside the home, are you a fast/slow reader, are you already a birth professional? There are many books to be read, and you will spend several hours typing your study guide. Most people need 6-9 months to complete the required work before the workshop, but if you have read several of the books previously, are a birth professional, or don’t have many distractions in your life, you may be able to get through the requirements faster. We know it’s a lot of work but our instructors have been able to hit the ground running because they truly “know their stuff.”

What do I need to bring to the workshop?

Paper or a laptop to take notes, 2 bed pillows, comfortable clothing, a jacket or sweater, your own snacks and beverages

How do I get students for my classes?

Birth Boot Camp strives to help our teachers fill their classes.  We have an accessible and searchable website where all of our instructors are listed.  Your training covers not just how to teach classes, but also includes a segment from a marketing professional on some basic self-promotion.  Much of your work will be in your own community. We encourage you to contact other birth professionals and be part of local community resources like La Leche League or BirthNetwork.

How long do I have to complete my certification?

Keep in mind that there is a significant amount of work involved in this training. After your application has been approved, allow yourself plenty of time to complete all certification requirements. The study guide must be submitted two weeks before the workshop. Certification should be completed within one year of applying.

When is my recertification due?

Recertification is due each year on the anniversary of your certification exam date.

How much is it to certify or re-certify?

Instructor Certification fees are $895 for 2015 training workshops.

The recertification fee is $125 for 2015.

Can I make payments?

You have a couple of choices: 1) Pay your deposit of $400 and the balance two weeks before your workshop; or 2) Pay in full and receive a $25 discount. Occasionally, women will pay their deposit and make monthly payments until they attend their workshop. You are welcome to do this - just let us know of your preference. The only options listed on the Application are the two mentioned above.

Can I be certified with another organization, as well?

Yes, you may be certified through (approved) organizations as long as there is not a conflict of interest in your classes.  We do expect our instructors to teach and use Birth Boot Camp materials when a class has been advertised as such, and only in such instances. For example, you may not use Birth Boot Camp materials (written, video, or otherwise) for a non-Birth Boot Camp class. We believe that our materials and support are the best in the industry and you will not feel the need to have or continue with another CBE certification.

Are students able to make up classes online?

One of the advantages of Birth Boot Camp’s online classes for the instructor is that your students are able to take up to four missed classes via the Internet.  While we encourage students to come to every class, we realize that things come up, people must travel, and sometimes people don’t find out about a class until your class has already begun. Should a student of yours need to make up a class, we will set them up with the appropriate online class. Their access will last one week from the time of issuing.

Can I teach for a shorter period of time than 10 weeks?

The Birth Boot Camp curriculum is designed to be taught as a 10-week course and instructors should prepare to teach this course in a full 10-week period.

How much do I charge for classes?

We recommend pricing of $300 per couple. This is a quality class with updated materials. Instructors agree to no predatory pricing, meaning that instructors will not set pricing with the intent to undercut other instructors in their area. Instructors will price classes based upon the fair market value. This means that you are allowed to vary your rate according to the needs of your area, but we recommend that you not charge less than $200.  Your time and effort is worth at least that.

Can I bring my baby to the workshop?

We encourage long term breastfeeding and want nursing mothers to be included. Training, however, is intensive and requires long hours and a quiet room so that all who have invested their time and money can hear and participate. Training also requires that all be able to participate in relaxation and various other floor exercises. If you are nursing a baby or child you must have someone with you who can bring your baby to you and take them out of the training room when they are done feeding. This enables both the nursing mother and others in attendance to maximize their workshop experience. Regretfully, we will have to ask people to leave if they are being disruptive or are unable to participate.

Will the online classes compete with my live classes? I am worried that people will just opt for online classes.

One of the goals of Birth Boot Camp is to provide classes that are accessible to ALL, even those away from an instructor, overseas, or with very hectic schedules. That is why we developed the online course.  We still see much value in live classes such as: one-on-one instructor interaction, friendship and camaraderie with other class members, and personal accountability weekly in class.  We encourage those who CAN to take live classes. We believe that most couples DESIRE a live, in-person class.  Our online classes exist for those who simply cannot make a live class work.

Is there ongoing support and training for instructors?

Yes! Ongoing, daily support can be found on the Instructor Facebook Group. Our wonderful instructors have formed an amazing support system there. Our Management Team and Advisory Board are available by email, at any time. We are thankful for our instructors and do all that we can to help and support them!

In addition, Birth Boot Camp is hosting a conference every three years with the purpose of providing new information and helping Birth Boot Camp instructors and doulas stay motivated and excited about their birth business. Fees are kept to a minimum. You will not regret making an effort to be at every single Birth Boot Camp conference.
