We are excited to introduce you to one of our newest instructors, Alayna Spratley. Alayna will be teaching birth classes in Cleveland, Ohio, and took training with our beloved Instructor Trainer, Carmen Calvo.

Introduce yourself and tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a Birth Boot Camp Instructor serving families in Cleveland and Greater Northeast Ohio. I have two daughters, ages three and one. Both my children were born at home! My first daughter was born while living in Sweden.

My second homebirth was in Baltimore, Maryland. I had amazing, empowering, and confident homebirths!

What first got you interested in birth work?

I became passionate about holistic pregnancy, birth, and parenting while expecting my first child. Through research, it was clear that being educated, prepared, and supported helped me have a calm pregnancy, smooth birth, and gentle postpartum period.

After having my second baby, I became increasingly active in the natural birthing community, and felt called to serve mothers. I first trained as a postpartum doula and placenta specialist. Soon after, I became Birth Boot Camp childbirth teacher, so I could better support, nurture, and educate fellow women.

Do you have any particular passions concerning birth?

I want all families to know that they have choices in childbirth! There are so many options and resources to help expectant couples have their best birth experience. I feel really passionate about showing families how and where to access information about pregnancy and birth.

Tell us a little about your Birth Boot Camp training experience- what did you like about it, where was it, who was your trainer?

I took my Birth Boot Camp Instructor Training with my wonderful friend and mentor, Carmen Calvo in Baltimore, Maryland. The training was comprehensive, intimate and fun. The instructor materials and support I receive from Carmen, and Birth Boot Camp is absolutely exceptional.

Tell us about your classes.

I am thrilled to teach Birth Boot Camp classes to Cleveland families. I currently teach childbirth classes at Circle of Life Home Birth Services, in Lakewood, and at Mother Rising Women’s Studio in Chardon.

I am currently the only Birth Boot Camp Instructor in the Cleveland area, and I am working diligently to spread the word about this awesome curriculum!

How did your training help prepare you for teaching birth classes in Cleveland, Ohio?

The training was fun and interactive. We were given so many different teaching tools and a variety of ways we can engage our students in the Birth Boot Camp curriculum.
